ABOUT ACTAEA RACEMOSA

Actaea Racemosa a.k.a. black cohosh is a perennial hardy in zones 4 to 8. It’s going to grow to about seven feet high. You’ll space it anywhere between 2 to 4 feet apart. The sun preference is part to full shade.  It likes medium-wet to medium soil. It’ll bloom between May and September. It is drought tolerant, deer resistant, and rabbit resistant. It has medium salt tolerance and it is juglone tolerant. It is the larval host plant for several Azure butterflies, including the Spring Azure, Appalachian Azure and Holly Azure. Its found in woodlands.

Actaea Racemosa requires double dormancy in order to germinate. The seed should be sown no deeper than the seed’s width.
